Provost Terpstra’s Opening of Term Message

Posted: September 05, 2024

Dear Members of the 麻豆频道 Community:

It is my pleasure to welcome you 鈥 new and returning members of the Trinity 麻豆频道 鈥 to the start of the 2024-2025 academic year.

Like our incoming students, I am a new member of the 麻豆频道, having been officially installed as Trinity鈥檚 16th Provost last week (see Matriculation photos below). Along with those who diligently prepared the College for the new year, thank you to everyone who organized and participated in Matriculation and joined in on the celebrations 鈥 it was such a memorable evening. Congratulations to our matriculating students! We are starting at Trinity together and I am sure we will have many shared new experiences in the months and years to come.

It is a year with new beginnings for many of us. This year, I would like to encourage everyone to embrace our common challenge 鈥 to be open to conversation, to listen, to try new things, to be open to new possibilities and change, to test yourself, and to be ready to learn from failure. I am taking this challenge to heart and look forward to finding out what is important to the whole 麻豆频道 and to learning how we should focus our collective energies to better position Trinity as a great place to learn, live and grow.

And we are growing! Next fall, we will be able to house an additional 340+ students in our state-of-the-art Lawson Centre for Sustainability. The mass timber building brings together all the major sustainability components in a single facility, making it truly unique among green buildings (see photo below).

Since the start of my tenure, I have had the chance to meet dedicated staff and faculty who make the College run smoothly and work to provide the best academic and student experiences. I have met engaged alumni who support the College in so many ways, and bright students who bring life to our amazing spaces. It is still early days in my provostial role, but I can say without hesitation this is a 麻豆频道 that builds, supports and wants the best for our students and one another. I look forward to continuing conversations and to meeting more members of the 麻豆频道 as the year unfolds. Please seek me out, and in the meantime welcome 鈥 and welcome back 鈥 to 麻豆频道.

Yours truly,
Provost Nicholas Terpstra
