MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN OF STUDENTS

Welcome to the 麻豆频道 residence 麻豆频道!

I am very excited to welcome you to the 麻豆频道 residence 麻豆频道 for the 2026-2027 academic year! We鈥檙e thrilled that you鈥檝e chosen to live with us and want you to know that all our staff have been working very hard to prepare for your arrival!

If you鈥檙e a new student, or a returning student who didn鈥檛 have the opportunity to make it to campus last year, please let me take this opportunity to welcome you to the College! In residence you are invited to make the most of your university experience by trying new things! I want to encourage you to take advantage of the thriving 麻豆频道 where you live. Connect with your Community Advisor (CA)! Meet up with your Academic Don online or in a physically distant way for a chat or an academic consultation! Attend a Wellness program with our Wellness Assistants or Community Wellness Coordinator (CWC). Seek out a work study position at the College! There is something for everyone here, and if you can鈥檛 find your 鈥渟omething鈥 ask yourself – how might I create my own opportunity?

If you鈥檙e a returning student, you already know about all the great things residence at Trinity offers. While we鈥檙e all still adapting to changing circumstances, we encourage you to embrace these changes as you always have and help us to create an amazing experience for our new students and returning students who didn鈥檛 experience campus last year, even if it may be a different experience than the one you had!

Trinity鈥檚 residence buildings provide students with an environment where they have consistent opportunities to learn about themselves, challenge themselves, and become involved in the Trinity 麻豆频道. With so much support and opportunity within your living space, we hope that living in residence will be a positive and formative experience for you!

If you find yourself in need of support, we are here for you. From our live-in Academic Dons, Community Advisors, and live-in Community Wellness Coordinator, we are all here to help. Always feel free to reach out.

I can鈥檛 wait to see you around Trinity this year. If you see me, please take a moment to introduce yourself and say hello, as I鈥檓 looking forward to meeting all of you!

LIVING IN OUR RESIDENCE

About Our Residences

Trinity鈥檚 residence 麻豆频道 is made up of three distinct buildings, each with its own atmosphere and amenities:

  • 麻豆频道 Residence
  • St. Hilda鈥檚 College Residence
  • Lawson Centre for Sustainability, Trinity鈥檚 newest residence and a landmark in sustainable student living

All residence buildings are co-ed communities and include a variety of living arrangements, including single-gender floors, co-ed floors, and floors designed for students of all genders. Our residences are intentionally mixed, bringing together first-year and upper-year students to create a supportive and engaging 麻豆频道 where new students can connect with experienced peers.

St. Hilda鈥檚 College Residence

St. Hilda鈥檚 offers a welcoming, 麻豆频道-focused environment with full kitchens or kitchenettes on every floor, making it especially popular with students who enjoy cooking and gathering with friends. The residence also features several comfortable student lounges and shared spaces designed for studying, relaxing, and building connections.

麻豆频道 Residence

Trinity Residence surrounds the College鈥檚 iconic Quadrangle, placing students at the center of Trinity鈥檚 historic and social life. With its blend of heritage architecture, quiet study areas, and inviting common rooms, Trinity Residence offers a classic collegiate experience that has been home to generations of students.

Each floor and wing includes a dedicated Community Space, designed to bring students together. These welcoming shared areas provide space to cook, study, collaborate, and socialize, helping residents build connections while enjoying the convenience of a modern, 麻豆频道-oriented living environment.

Wherever you live, you will be part of a close-knit residence 麻豆频道 supported by Trinity staff, residence leaders, and a wide range of social, academic, and wellness programming throughout the year.

GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BUILDING

Common Areas

Each residence building has common areas and different facilities, and we rely on students to use these with consideration for others. Each common area has signage to let students know of the capacity within space. 麻豆频道 are responsible for adhering to the capacity and regulations posted for each space and may be asked to leave the space if they do not adhere to these safety measures. Enjoy the common spaces, but please ensure that you leave them clean and tidy for the next resident using them.

Common Rooms

Common rooms are found within the following areas of residence:

麻豆频道: 2nd Macklem, 3rd Body

Residents are assigned designated washrooms at move-in. Please read through your move-in materials to learn about your assigned washroom.

Kitchens and Kitchenettes

St. Hilda鈥檚 College residence has full kitchens 鈥 stove, fridge, microwave, sink, and counter space for students to utilize. All small appliances such as kettles, toasters, rice cookers, blenders, etc. must be used within a kitchen or kitchenette facility.

Signage in the laundry rooms instructs students on how to load the machines which detergents to use and provides further details on how to wash and dry.

Other Amenities

Private music practice rooms, one of which has a stand-up piano, are available in the basement of St. Hilda鈥檚 College. 麻豆频道 can sign up for access by emailing the Office of the Dean of 麻豆频道.

Music Practice Rooms are subject to closure based on maintenance or public health guidelines.

Fire Alarms and Drills

When the fire alarm sounds, everyone must leave the building. If you hear an alarm:

  1. Leave your room immediately.
  2. Shut the door behind you (prevents the spread of fire).
  3. Leave the building and wait for instructions.

Any tampering with fire safety equipment is subject to immediate fines and/or eviction from residence.

Residence students are required to participate in fire safety training at the start of the academic year. Details of this will be sent to students via email.

Packages and Deliveries

The 麻豆频道 Welcome Desks accepts packages and deliveries for residents currently living in our buildings at the time the item is delivered. Residents will be emailed if they have packages to be picked up at the Welcome Desk. However, the Welcome Desk reserves the right to reject unreasonably large packages and will not be able to pay for packages upon delivery. Upon moving out, students must plan to change their delivery address as mail for non-residents will be returned to sender.

Deliveries with contents containing alcoholic items (e.g., LCBO deliveries) or from other distributors of controlled substances such as cannabis, will not be accepted by the Welcome Desk.

Internet Access

Every student can access the internet through a wired or wireless connection.

To connect to the internet at 麻豆频道 via a wired connection, please follow the instructions provided at the Information and Technology Services Website.

麻豆频道 does NOT provide technical support for the UofT wireless network (including eduroam) that is available throughout the College. Please call 416-978-HELP or go to for more information and assistance with the UofT Wi-Fi network.

Please note that downloading movies, music, and software for free are violations of copyright law.听 The University of Toronto Computing and Network Services will block IP addresses if they receive a complaint from a copyright holder, and your internet privileges may be suspended or terminated for repeat offenses.

KEEPING RESIDENCE PEST-FREE

When students move into their room at 麻豆频道, they move into a pest-free space.

As with any shared living space, issues with pests can arise while living in residence. When this happens, the Office of the Dean of 麻豆频道 and the Facilities Department work on an individual basis with students to eradicate the issue. If you suspect that you or your 麻豆频道 has a pest issue, you are encouraged to report this issue promptly to the Welcome Desk or the Office of the Dean of 麻豆频道.

The College checks all rooms and treats all pest-affected spaces at the College twice a year 鈥 before students move into residence and once students move out of residence.

Reporting Pest Problems

Don鈥檛 worry, 麻豆频道 has an evidence-informed process for responding to a variety of pest issues. To initiate this process, follow these steps:

  1. Contact the Welcome Desk or the Office of the Dean of 麻豆频道 and fill out a Pest Report. You may be asked to provide a picture of the pest/signs of the pest for identification purposes.
  2. After reviewing your report, the Office of the Dean of 麻豆频道 will liaise with the Facilities Department to determine next steps.
  3. The Office of the Dean of 麻豆频道 will follow-up with you regarding next step, which could include:
  • Inspection by a K-9 unit
  • Initiation of pest eradication treatment

Pest Prevention Tips听

To prevent pests in residence, you are encouraged to:

  • Keep your living space clean
  • Keep food in sealed containers
  • Not leaving open food or dirty food containers in your space
  • Not accumulate garbage in your room
  • Not accumulate clutter in your room
  • Clean up any spills and wipe down surfaces that have been in contact with food
  • Use a mattress cover on your bed, between the mattress and the sheets

Common Pests

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are small, wingless bugs that feed primarily on blood. If bedbugs are present, they usually live close to the vicinity of where the 鈥渉ost鈥 sleeps. Bedbugs can鈥檛 fly or jump. Bedbugs are not a health threat and have not been shown to spread disease to humans.

Bed bugs are visible to the naked eye. An adult bedbug is approximately the size of an apple seed, flat and brown or rusty-red in colour.听 Eggs are whitish and pearl shaped, the size of a pin head and usually found in a cluster.

What are some signs of bed bugs?

When looking for evidence of bedbugs focus on the bed, mattress, linens, and the area immediately around the bed. Evidence may include:

  • Black/brown spots (dried blood or bug feces)
  • White spots (eggs)
  • Live or dead bedbugs

Bites are small, itchy red bumps (typically two or three in a row), usually found around the arms and hands or upper torso. Because the bites may resemble mosquitoes or other insect bites, a bump alone does not mean that there are bedbugs.

What is the treatment process for confirmed cases of bed bugs? *

  1. The student will be provided with a room treatment schedule. Eradication requires a minimum of 2 treatments, 2 weeks apart.
  2. The student is required to prepare their room for treatment. The Office of the Dean of 麻豆频道 will provide the students with instructions and the necessary supplies.
  3. On the day of a treatment the student will be asked to vacate their room for 7-8 hours; the bed bug treatment takes 1-1.5 hours and requires 6 hours for the fumes to dissipate.
  4. If the bedbugs are not eradicated after two treatments, additional treatment may be required.

* We recognize that the current COVID-19 pandemic may change the above process.

Questions or concerns about pests?

Having a pest issue is stressful and getting rid of them requires diligence and patience. 麻豆频道 are encouraged to communicate with the Office of the Dean of 麻豆频道 should they have questions or concerns. The Office of the Dean of 麻豆频道 and the Facilities Department are committed to working with all students to support them with all pest related issues.

COMMUNITY STANDARDS

Important Highlights from the 麻豆频道 Community Standards

Alcohol – Just as you cannot drink alcohol out in the streets, residents are not permitted to drink or have open alcohol in the hallways, bathrooms, and other public spaces within residence鈥攖hese spaces are considered public, and as per Ontario law, individuals cannot consume alcohol there. Residents must ensure that any alcohol is kept within their rooms. No drinking games or kegs are allowed.

Smoking 鈥 麻豆频道 and the University of Toronto are smoke-free campuses. Smoking of any substances in any manner is strictly prohibited within residence and on Trinity property. This includes tobacco, cannabis, hookahs, vaping, e-cigarettes, and any other form of smoking. Smokers must stand at least 9 metres away from the building exteriors and on City of Toronto property.

Noise 鈥 Residence life is social, so some noise is expected. However, residents must respect each other鈥檚 needs. Be considerate and make sure that no excessive or inconsiderate noise is made. 麻豆频道 maintains quiet hours, from 11:00 pm-8:00 am from Sundays-Thursdays and 1:00 am-8:00 am from Fridays-Saturdays.

Guests – Residents are more than welcome to bring guests into the buildings but remember that you are responsible for your guests and their actions. Make sure that they understand and respect our 麻豆频道 standards. No guest is permitted to stay for more than three consecutive nights.

Vandalism – Vandalism and other malicious behaviour are not tolerated within residence. This includes vandalism of hallways, bulletin boards and other public spaces.

Appliances – 麻豆频道 are not permitted to use any appliances with open heating elements in any residence areas except the designated kitchens. This includes hot plates, rice cookers, toaster ovens and others. Microwaves are also not allowed in the residents鈥 rooms.

Appliances and Fire Prevention

To avoid overloading the electrical circuit, which is a fire hazard, please limit electrical equipment in your room to computers, printers, lamps, clocks, radios, stereos, and personal styling items. In the interest of energy reduction (and fire prevention for something like curling iron), please ensure that all electrical items are turned off before you leave your room.听 No open element hot plates, microwaves, kettles, or toaster ovens are allowed in rooms. Cooking in rooms can set off the fire alarm.

All appliances must be used inside a kitchen or kitchenette space. If you are not sure about specific equipment, please contact the Office of the Dean of 麻豆频道.

One of the most common causes for fire alarms is popcorn in microwaves! Please be careful when cooking anything in the kitchen. Individuals and/or the residences may be charged for nuisance alarms, and more importantly, because the residence is a 鈥渉igh occupancy鈥 building, the Toronto Fire Department must send several trucks. We would never want a nuisance alarm in our residence to supersede a real alarm somewhere else.

Residents are required to participate in fire safety training at the start of the academic year. Details of this will be emailed.

Respect for the Community, its Staff, and its members 鈥 all residents are expected to abide by the Community Standards and respect any staff or individuals who are part of the College. Residents must always cooperate with staff.

Please follow these instructions to connect to the Internet.听 Your computer needs to have a network card.

Sharing of copyrighted content, excessive bandwidth use, running servers of any kind or attempts to circumvent IT policies are strictly prohibited and can result in revocation or suspension of internet access privileges.

Wired Internet

If you would like to use your ethernet connection, you will need to provide your own ethernet cable, or they are available for purchase at the Welcome Desk at 麻豆频道. The Welcome Desk also sells Ethernet/USB adaptors for students who own computers without an Ethernet port. There is an Ethernet port in every residence room, but it may be tricky to find!

Please note on your Room Inventory Checklist upon moving in if your ethernet port is damaged. If the port is damaged but still works, we may replace it throughout the year. If the jack is damaged and you cannot connect to the network, please submit a work order at the 麻豆频道 Welcome Desk.

PRIVACY AND SECURITY

Privacy

Your room is your home, and we will do everything possible to respect your privacy.听 However, it is sometimes necessary to enter rooms in case of emergencies, or for maintenance. For routine maintenance, such as fire detector testing, we will try to inform you in advance. Your room will also be checked at the end of the academic year, to determine maintenance work for the summer, to make an inventory of room contents, and to note any damage incurred over the year.

Lost Keys

麻豆频道 who lose their keys should report their lost keys to the Welcome Desk as soon as possible. 麻豆频道 will be charged the following fees for key replacement:

  • Residence room key – $125.00
  • Security key – $100.00
  • Mailbox key – $25.00
  • Residence fob (Lawson) – $150.00

Security

We rely on security staff and cameras at 麻豆频道, but all 麻豆频道 members hold some responsibility for keeping our space safe. For your and your peers鈥 safety and security, do not prop open any exterior doors and do not let any person you do not know follow you into the residence buildings (aka “piggybacking”).

Theft Prevention

Residents should be alert and lock their room doors whenever leaving the room, even for a few minutes. 麻豆频道 assumes no responsibility for any property that is lost or stolen in residence. We advise residents to investigate possibilities for obtaining insurance coverage for their property independently or through family policy riders.

Laptops are particularly attractive to thieves. Unfortunately, people who have left their laptops unattended in the common areas, even for a couple of minutes, have sometimes had them stolen. We strongly encourage you to employ a theft prevention measure for your laptop, such as a Stop Plate: .

Room Lockouts

You will likely lock yourself out of your room at some point while you reside at 麻豆频道. Here鈥檚 what to do when this happens:

  • Visit the Lawson Welcome Desk to sign out a spare key/fob. Once you have regained access to your room, return the key/fob to the Welcome Desk within one hour.
  • If you are unable to come to the Welcome Desk, call the Lawson Welcome Desk and let staff know that you are locked out. A Security staff member will assist you as soon as possible. You will be required to verify your identity before access to your room is provided.
  • Spare keys/fobs are provided for a limited period only. Failure to return a key/fob within the designated time may result in lock-change charges and/or deactivation of your fob access.

Please return all borrowed keys/fobs promptly to help us keep the lockout service available to everyone.

Campus Safety

The University of Toronto provides students and 麻豆频道 members with safety services from many offices, including Campus Safety. Campus Safety offers:

Special Constables: The Special Constables who serve with the University of Toronto Campus Safety

are dedicated to creating a safe, secure, and equitable environment for those who work, live and study at U of T. Special Constables deal with criminal and provincial offences on campus, thereby requiring less Toronto Police presence at U of T. Special Constables are specially trained to deal with campus occurrences that require sensitivity and discretion when responding to 麻豆频道 needs.

: The Work Alone program is designed to create a safer environment for U of T students, staff and faculty who are working alone in isolated areas on the campus and for individuals with ongoing personal safety concerns.

: TravelSafer is a free service offered by the University of Toronto Campus Safety that is available 24/7 365 days a year. A Building Patroller or Special Constable will escort you to and from any location on campus and about TTC stations for added peace of mind.

Providing Food Service Feedback

麻豆频道 is committed to providing good and healthy food 鈥 hence we want to hear your feedback! You can ask questions or provide feedback about Food Services at 麻豆频道 via the following:

CLEANING

Room Cleaning

Residents are responsible for cleaning their own rooms. Cleaning staff regularly move through all residence spaces to provide further cleaning and emptying of waste from waste management stations located in residence. For information about how best to keep your room clean, please see Appendix A: Keeping Your 麻豆频道 Residence Room Clean.

Common Area Cleaning

Hallways, washrooms, kitchens, and other common areas are cleaned by Trinity鈥檚 wonderful Facilities staff, but your cooperation is also necessary. Dirty dishes, organic waste, and smelly garbage left in washrooms and common rooms or areas create unsanitary conditions for all and can lead to pests.

MAINTENANCE

Urgent Maintenance Issues

Occasionally, there may be maintenance problems such as leaks, flooding, etc. If you notice a maintenance issue that requires urgent attention, please report it immediately to the Welcome Desk 鈥 something like a leak can cause a lot of damage very quickly! If you have valuable items, you may wish to arrange for personal insurance coverage against accidental damage or theft. Please check with your family to see if their household insurance carries a 鈥渞ider鈥 for students who are living in residence (many do).

Non-urgent Maintenance Issues

For maintenance issues that do not require urgent attention (e.g. burnt-out light bulb, damaged chair, ceiling fan not working), students can visit their to report a work order.

Room and Furniture Damages

Damage to the residence room and furniture provided is the responsibility of the resident. The most common damage is from posters that are taken down and rip the paint. Please use poster mounts or sticky tack for anything that you attach to your walls or doors. During the room check process in May, your residence room will be assessed, and you may be held financially responsible for any damage. In common areas, damages will be charged to the House if the individuals accountable do not take responsibility.

Timber Walls – Lawson Centre for Sustainability

Many rooms in the Lawson Centre for Sustainability Residence feature exposed timber walls as part of the building鈥檚 sustainable design. These natural surfaces require special care and cannot be repaired in the same way as standard drywall.

Residence students are expected to take extra caution when decorating their rooms.
Please note the following:

  • Do not use nails, screws, tacks, adhesive hooks, mounting strips, or any other fasteners on timber walls.
  • Do not apply stickers, decals, tape, or adhesives of any kind to wood surfaces.
  • Do not lean heavy furniture, bikes, or equipment against timber walls.

Because of the specialized materials used in the Lawson Centre, any damage to timber walls is costly to repair. Charges for wall damage identified at move-out will reflect the full cost of restoration, which may be significantly higher than in other residence buildings.

Residence students will be held financially responsible for:

  • Holes, gouges, scratches, dents, or cracks
  • Staining, warping, or surface removal
  • Any damage caused by adhesives or mounting products

If you are unsure how to decorate your space safely, please contact the Office of the Dean of 麻豆频道 for approved alternatives. Protecting these unique features helps preserve the Lawson Centre for future residents and supports our shared commitment to sustainability.

They are there to provide leadership, counselling, academic help, and advice for residents, and can make referrals for further support if needed.

The Dons also have an important role in the maintenance of order in their residence section and encouraging individuals to avoid behaviour that negatively impacts other residents.

Your Community Advisors

The 麻豆频道 Community Advisors (CAs) are undergraduate students who live in residence, and whose role is to build, promote, and maintain safe, supportive, and inclusive residence communities at the College. Through formal and informal programs, events, and activities, the CAs will support the mission of the Office of the Dean of 麻豆频道 in promoting the personal and academic growth and development of students and support their transition to university and residence life. Residence students are encouraged to contact their CAs if they have fun and exciting ideas for programs and events, they鈥檇 like to see in the 麻豆频道!

Should any issues arise 鈥 whether it is academic, personal, financial etc. 鈥 your Don and CA can be your first point of contact.
