Reports to: Course Instructor, TRN350H1S; The Dean of Arts at Â鶹ƵµÀ.

Compensation: $53.44 (plus 4% vacation & subject to statutory deductions). Approximately 124 hours.

Position Summary: Â鶹ƵµÀ is looking to fill two TA positions for TRN350H1S: Scarcity, Sustainability, and the Future of International Relations

Note: This posting is for one of two TA positions for TRN350Y1Y.
TRN350Y1Y is a required 3rd year course in the International Relations Program.

About the course:

  • Course Code: TRN350H1S: Scarcity, Sustainability, and the Future of International Relations
    The lecture is scheduled for Monday, 4pm – 6pm
    Tutorials are Tuesday 12pm – 1pm, Tuesday 1pm – 2pm, Tuesday 2pm – 3pm.
  • Enrolment: 45
  • Description: International Relations are changing, and changing quickly. Major challenges in global affairs, including the interrelated problems of climate change, resource scarcity, great power competition, and changes in mass politics will shape our future in uncertain and possibly dangerous ways. This course seeks to evaluate the effect of these interconnected issues on our world today, and their implications for the future. Through a series of case studies, students will be encouraged to identify future international challenges and work to develop sustainable and innovative solutions to the problems that will confront our world in the next decades and beyond.
  • Prerequisites: Admission to International Relations Major or Specialist program; TRN250Y1

Duties: The TA will be required to lead three weekly tutorials, attend weekly lectures, hold office hours (1 hour per week), read assigned materials, invigilate a final exam, grade all assignments (including essays and exams) for students in their tutorial sections, respond to student questions by email outside of scheduled office hours, work with the instructor and second TA to maintain a Quercus course page, and assist with other duties as determined by the course instructor and program director.

Qualifications: Current doctoral students who have completed at least one year of their program. Likely programs of study could include Political Science, History, Global Affairs, Public Policy.

Â鶹ƵµÀ should have strong academic teaching ability, excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, and must be able to work in a collegial manner with the course instructor.
